Itinerary
Begin your journey with an early morning departure from Nairobi, heading north through Kenya’s central highlands. After crossing the equator in Nanyuki and skimming the foothills of Mount Kenya, you descend into the arid, dramatic landscapes of Samburu National Reserve.
Arrive by midday for a warm welcome at either the Elephant Bedroom Camp—a luxury riverside tented camp where elephants often wander past your deck—or Samburu Simba Lodge, perched with sweeping views of the vast savannah.
After a delicious lunch and time to freshen up, embark on your first afternoon game drive. This region is home to the Samburu Special Five:
- Reticulated giraffe
- Grevy’s zebra
- Somali ostrich
- Beisa oryx
- Gerenuk
You may also encounter elephants, lions, leopards, and crocodiles along the Ewaso Nyiro River.Return to your lodge in the evening for a refreshing swim, sundowner drinks, and a candle-lit dinner in the wild.
Overnight at Elephant Bedroom Camp or Samburu Simba Lodge.
Wake to the sounds of the bush. After breakfast, set off for a full-day exploration of Samburu and Buffalo Springs National Reserves, connected by a bridge over the river. Buffalo Springs offers contrasting terrain—open plains, natural springs, and acacia woodland.
Enjoy incredible wildlife sightings, stunning scenery, and perhaps even a leopard lounging on a tree or elephants bathing in the river.
Return for lunch at the lodge, followed by an afternoon swim, siesta, or quiet moment on your private deck watching the wilderness unfold.
Later in the day, you can opt for a second game drive or relax at the lodge with drinks by the fire.
Dinner & overnight at your lodge/camp, under a canopy of stars.
After a leisurely breakfast (or early morning game drive), check out and begin your scenic return journey to Nairobi. The drive is relaxed, with opportunities for photo stops and local crafts shopping along the way.
